Kernel Upgrade Syndrome

Absolutely keep the old working kernel around until you're well
satisfied the new one does the job.

I'm no expert on GIT, by any means, but I understand it's an unsettled
environment. Certainly, Kirk would love some help around keeping Speakup
current with kernel developments. Perhaps that could be you. On the
other hand, there are many directions to go with comp sci skills. The
kernel is just one direction--and a fairly specialized one, too.
