Speakup broken with kernel 3.4.x (ArchLinux users please read)

Has there been any progress in fixing the 3.4 kernel speakup bugs? I
am very disturbed that we may have to hold back to a 3.3 kernel to
avoid locking up a computer whenever you press a speakup command on a
desktop keyboard.

Any news?
