debian squeeze keyboard layout

Hi,

Not sure if this is to do with speakup or not but just installed debian testing 
and I am not getting the uk keyboard layout.

During the install, I selected uk for country and uk keyboard although there 
were several uk keyboards to choose from so perhapse I got the wrong one.

I have tried reconfiguring the keyboard with dpkg but no change.

Anyone in the uk found this?

I am currently getting "less" and "greater" on the key next to "Z" and am not 
getting any pound sign.
