Emacs or Vim - how close to a word processor can it get?

Hi Folks,

I'd like to use an auto complete type facility within emacs or Vim and wondered if experienced users could offer any pointers?

For example I'd like the following expansions:

Uniclan expanded to; University of Central Lancashire
Co2402 expanded to; co2402 Advanced Programming with C++

And so on.  I hope you get the idea.

Would this be a macro of some kind?
