gentoo after installation

If it is GDM loading on boot-up, I think you should be able to remove it 
from starting up by chrooting into it (from the installation CD, like you 
did for installing) and then run
rc-update del gdm default

I thought that gentoo did not add software to run on start-up by default, 
but maybe you added it.
