an elinks question

Hi all.
I was wondering if anyone who had really dived into using and fine tuning 
elinks has figured out 2 things.
1, I notice on some pages that the messages about transfering x KB of data 
are intrusive, is there a way to turn that off?
Also how does one deal with sites that are arranged in columns?
