When I just checked MC it was shortening long names in the middle, but
you can get it to display longer file names.  If you select 'Listing
Mode' and the select 'User Defined', you can set it to just display
'name'.  This should allow files up to about 38 characters to display
without being shortened.  If you decrease the size of one of the panes,
then you could allow it to display even longer file names.
