Installing Linux over Windows destroys the partition table and any overwritten
data on the disk.  It does not, however, make all date unrecoverable.  With the
right tools and enough money, anyone can recover data on a disk even if it has
been overwritten more than once.  This is why wiping tools rewrite the data on
the disk 3 or more times to ensure that even the most aggressive recovery
techniques will fail.
