patch errors on 2.6.8 kernel

Hello,
I'm trying to patch speakup-2.0 into the debian kernel-source-2.6.8

I did the make mrproper, created the linux symlink and ran the ./install

I get a message saying that 4 out of 13 hunks failed along with a vt.c.rej
file.  Should I ignore these or attempt to patch by hand.  It is possible
that the debian distro made some changes to vt.c which may have altered the
line numbering in the file.
