recording cd's on a 2.6 kernel

The following is what I've tried to use to get cdrecord to work... can 
you tell me what I'm missing please?
I also have removed the scsi emulation from my kernel by compiling 
another one, and as I may have said before, don't have the hdd=ide-scsi 
in my lilo.conf any more.
cdrecord dev=/dev/hdd speed=0 -dao -data /path/image-name
Any help most welcome.
