Hi Charles ,
You said you had the *static* flite libraries installed, but you need the shared flite libs. Did you get speech-dispatcher to compile with no errors? I don't know, maybe it can work with the static flite libraries and speechd-up can't... otherwise I have no other suggestions I'm afraid.
