There's no need to reboot the system if your cable gets pulled
out. You can unload and reload the bns module as was suggested, or you
can try hitting numpad insert, and numpad enter a few times. If that
doesn't work, then you may need to type for a bit to make speakup
realize there's no active bns on the other end, and then issue the
insert-enter combination.
