Minor corrections:

It turned out the list was not down, but had been blocked by my email
service for about 24 hours. The information about the extra keystroke
echoing came from a conversation on the speakfreely list, not on the
speakup list. The suggestion made there was to check the environment
variable "LANGUAGE" to be sure it has the value "C". But Fedora
configuration details are outside my area of competence, so Larry needs
help from a Fedora source.
