It's possible to modify many versions of windows so the logo doesn't show
and the graphics don't either until everything initializes successfully.
http://www.windowsannoyances.com if I remember the url correctly has this
kind of information.  If I got the wrong url, just search for undocumented
windows with google and that information should become available shortly.
