I finally have it speaking! 

Mind you, it's not good for very much yet far as I can tell, but it's
better than it was. It sure even seems like mozilla reads with it. And
GNOME2 keyboard navigation is very nice indeed. Now if I can figure
out how to keep it going when I switch consoles and switch back.... (Hmm)
