Load time is rediculous

You are not stuck. Chances are that you are shutting your
computer down incorrectly. If you shut your computer down without
going through the normal shutdown procedure your disk partitions
are tagged as having been incorrectly shut down, and a lengthy
file system check is performed when you boot up again. My guess
is that is what is happening.
