alsa mixer seting totally ridiculous!!! just have to vent before i take a break and try again!

For this reason I usually edit /etc/asound.conf by hand
or I usually use amixer.
You want the microphone muted, to stop it coming out hte speaker.
You don't want the ac97 second mic support active either.
Kirk has a sblive and has it working on the reflector.
I don't yet have one of these cards because the line-in on them
can be rather noisy and I don't want that for sampling books.
I have an es1370 at the moment and an es1371 in another machine.
