REDHAT 7.1 WITH SPEAKUP

Hi,

Please help!

I've downloaded the Redhat 7.1 speakup enabled distribution from
ftp://198.172.228.165/pub/linux/rh7.1/iso
>From this distribution I've created a boot disk using the boot.img image
file.
At the boot prompt, I entered:
text speakup_synth=dectlk
(I have a dec express external on com1)

guess what? still no speech!

What am I doing wrong?
