128-bit encryption on the command line?

Yep, lynx does do 128-bit encryption. You will need not only the SSL
patch for lynx, or to install the lynx-ssl package for Debian, but you
will also need OpenSSL. Debian has a package for that also, though.

The problem is, however...at least, with my bank...that the page is
very! Javascript dependent. To the point where you can't get logged
into the account unless you have a Javascript-capable browser, and
unfortunately, there aren't any (I don't think) that work from the
command line. But once there are, and once I get around to learning
latex...I think I won't have any need of Windows anymore. Well, except
those !@#$%^!!!!!!ing Windows Media streams.
