I tried all the suggestions concerning this and found that for me with
zipspeak, that ppp-go was the best but it does connect right away.  whatever
you do to make it dial on demand either ppp-go -d or pppd -d which I doubt
worked for me for demand dialing with no configuration beyond pppsetup.
