speakup direct option?

After creating the direct file you should invoke:
espeakup -V af

Try the following in the parameters subfolder:
echo 1 >direct
Can the file be written? If yes, then start Espeakup like explained above.
If you cannot create the file, you have to edit the characters file in 
that directory, to correctly speak Africans.
Then start Espeakup with the -V option.
