aironet 4800 wireless card not configuring properly

Hi all.
Recently I purchased a cisco aironet 4800 pci wifi card, because I had seen it supported in the kernel.
However, when ifup brings it up, it says  that there's an unknown hardware address type 801; anyone know what's going on?
I tried looking for it through google, but didn't come up with anything concrete.
