speakup with serial synths: what's the latest?

Hi everyone,

What's the latest on support for a serial synth with speakjup? Is there
still a highest kernel release that offers such support? I've lost track of
that issue since neither of my current machines have a serial port and I
have been relying on espeak/espeakup for speech output.
