I think you'll get it if you choose to install the Gnome desktop during
installation of Debian.

I'm not seeing any delays or lack of responsiveness here, so I don't know what
might be causing it. there's a Gnome terminal accessibility bug for which I've
submitted a patch that's still awaiting review.

By the way, these questions would be better answered on the Orca list. This is
the Speakup list and all your questions are about Gnome and Orca. Could you
take the discussion to the Orca list?
