Debian 7 speak up and gnome clashing

It's also worth noting, if you first start up orca and have speech 
within gnome, speakup quits working and will generate loads of errors if 
you try to get it to speak. In the beginning of vinux, I think it was 
running pulse in systemwide mode that made it possible to run speakup 
via speech dispatcher and orca at the same time, but I may be missing 
something. Either way, just as long as you don't start gnome or perhaps 
orca, speakup works great.
