serial ports

I have a hardware synthesizer, but I haven't used it since my last motherboard with a serial port died almost a year and a half ago. I only use software speech now. For better predictability, there are some basic USB sound devices available that will work out of the box and don't cost all that much. These likely cost less than most serial cards and about as much as a USB to serial converter, but they will work better with Speakup.
