espeakup and sound cards?

Hi all
Does anyone know a way I can change which sound card Espeakup is using
to output? I've a separate USB speaker that I'd like it to go through
but, no matter what my default card is set to be, espeakup insists on
going through card 0. I'd like to go through Pulseaudio if possible,
but it's not necessary. I've compiled portaudio with Pulseaudio
support and I can easily redirect espeak itself to the desired device,
but espeakup still forces card 0 no matter what. I don't like to
compile espeak itself with pulseaudio support since there's a bug
where by espeak force-raises the volume to 100% every time it speaks.
It would be fine if I could just get espeakup to go through my default
card, then I could move the stream to whichever device I wish and keep
it there.

Any thoughts?
