Steve,

Debian is transitioning from using bash to using dash, the latter shell
seems closer to the magic posix standard. The guys at debian are
scouring everything for what they call "bashisms" with the object of
greater standardization around the posix benchmarks.  At least that is
my understanding of the issues here.
