Archlinux is not dpkg based. Its package manager is pacman. The talking
installation image developed by Chris Brannon uses software speech,
while redhat and debian require the use of a hardware synthesizer to
install. 

One advantage of archlinux is its "rolling release" concept, so that
there are no versions of the distro. If you use archlinux, you are
using current versions of Linux, so long as you regularly check for
updates.  Archlinux requires either the i686 architecture (nb: not
i386, i486, or i586) or the x86-64  architecture, soon to be available
with speakup support.

The idea behind archlinux is simplicity: not simplicity for the user,
but technical simplicity. It's a great choice for someone with sysadmin
experience.
