pulseaudio and espeakup frustrations

Hello, i'm trying to set up espeakup to use pulseaudio, but i'm not
getting the results that I really want.
I'm using ubuntu 10.04 installed from a vinux installation.
I compiled espeak with pulse support, and recompiled espeakup to use
alsa only.
I set pulseaudio up to be a systemwide daemon, enabled realtime
scheduling, and high priority in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf.
I also created an /etc/asound.conf that tells alsa things to go through
pulse.
What is actually happening here is that espeakup is working, but is
lagging slightly?
The best way to reproduce this problem is to type with key echo on.
for example, I type Farhan.
espeakup reads the f and the n, when typing very quickly, nothing in
between.
also, when cursoring around, speech will get sticky and lag especially
if you have multiple blank lines in a window and you hit the bottom.
I hope someone could help me fix these problems.
thanks
Farhan Khan
