Uptime and w failing to report correct info?

It's possible that your /var/run/utmp might have gotten corrupted for
some reason. If you're really sure there are no other users on your
system, you could do:
rm /var/run/utmp
touch /var/run/utmp
chgrp utmp /var/run/utmp
chmod 664 /var/run/utmp
