espeakup problems in Ubuntu 9.10

Hi Garry
I had the same problem when I tried to use espeakup in karmic.
practical solution: just press enter. It works fine anyway, despite the 
error message.
possible cause: I don't know for sure either. But since I had installed 
ubuntu with the accessibility profile and there is somewhat of a 
pulse-no pulse accessibility mess, I thought this error message was 
because of that as well. *shrugs*.
