Location of synthesizer

Hello,
I tried running

echo "text" > /dev/ttyUSB0

I don't think this command will work for me. I tried listing /dev/ 
ttyUSB0 and my computer says no such file or directory. I am trying to  
locate my USB to serial adaptor. I tried

ls /dev/cu.*

But all I got back were Bluetooth listings. I want to run the echo  
command to test my synthesizer. Any help would be appreciated.
