There have been a few people on this list over the years, who have
attempted to take on the role of list moderator at one time or
another. I do recall that Kirk had posted a message addressing this
subject once upon a time, but after searching the archives for close
to an hour, I can't find that post to save my life. Maybe another list
veteran will be able to find that post in the archives, and post a url
to it, or maybe Kirk himself will respond. What I'm about to state is
as far as I can recall it, and let me stress that I don't mean to
speak for Kirk here in anyway, I simply wish to reiterate what Kirk
has said on this topic, as far as I can remember it, to address the
just raised concern.
- From what I can recall, Kirk has said in the past, that he generally
will not play policeman here, unless that is warranted, which has only
happened once as far as I can recall in the 7 or so years that I've
been a member of this list. As for topic, from what I recall, Kirk has
said in the past, that gnu/linux/unix is fine, as well as
speech/screen readers under gnu/linux/unix.
If my memory is correct, that's a very broad range of allowed topics,
and as far as I can remember all recent posts on this list, including
the one you were replying to, fall well within that range.
Again, I don't wish to speak for Kirk, I'm only stating what I can
recall as best as I can recall it. I'm sure that if I just said
something improperly, or something that I shouldn't have said, I'll be
corrected by the captain himself, or by someone with more authority
than myself on what the list rules are. Kirk, if you want to respond,
and post some loose general list guidelines, that could be fleshed
out, I'd be willing to create a page with that info for the web site,
so that there is a reference to settle issues like this one once and
for all.
