Hi,

On Debian, you want the git-core package.  The git package is something 
else entirely different.  To get sources, just do this and read through 
the various logs and such:

git clone http://linux-speakup.org/speakup.git

git-log

Yes, cvs is abandoned.  I think the last commit was last September or 
so.  Since the web pages aren't current, I was confused by this also.  
Someone really either needs to update the web pages or install a wiki.  
Maybe a wiki would be best at this point?
