Access to PDF and CHM files from within Shell

All,

I want to know if the following is possible?

1.  Accessing a CHM file from the Shell?  If so, how and is it possible to keep the HTML structure or do you have to extract it out as a web page?

2.  Is it possible to access PDF without converting it into HTMl or Text by using the pdf2ps ps2html tools?  Basically, I have some secure PDF documents which I want to access under Linux.
