It's not always stored in a chip...I've seen this before, mostly on 
compaq machines, where the absolute basic requirements to post the 
machine are stored on the board, but any aditional stuff like the 
configuration util are stored on a disk partition.

I don't know why, but first C programs tend to look a lot worse than
first programs in any other language (maybe except for fortran, but then
