All,

here are a couple of tips for installing speakup on gentoo.

I recommend using at least gentoo-sources-2.6.24-r4. There was a bug
fixed in version 2.6.24.4 of the linux kernel which affects speakup, and
that is the version of the kernel in this package.

Once this package is emerged, make sure that /usr/src/linux points to
the new kernel. If you have symlink in your use flags, this will be
taken care of automatically when you emerge gentoo-sources; otherwise,
you will have to fix it manually.

After you have the kernel installed and the /usr/src/linux symlink set
up, just follow the instructions in the INSTALLATION document in the
speakup git repository.

I recommend making sure that the /usr/src/linux symlink is set up
because that is the default where speakup will be installed if you run
speakup's install script without arguments.

The install script creates a log in the current directory when it runs.
If you have any issues with the script, it would be a good idea to post
the log so we can see the output you are getting.

Thanks,
