dumb question

All right all, dumb question alert, maybe not so dumb, but how do you 
adjust volume in gnome when running orca.  My linux volume seems to 
be much lower than my windows volume.  One more thing, is there a 
taskbar in gnome like that of windows for finding minimized gaim 
windows and such?  Lastly, if I install orca with speech-dispatcher 
support, is that gonna conflict with speakup?  Thanks much in advance.
