gentoo after installation

Okay, I found and corrected my mistake.  It's necessary to choose advanced 
rather than standard installation since that gives the ability to edit the 
grub boot line. What did fail was hal on my way to doing an emerge on 
gnopernicus.  Hal couldn't find a useable kernel source configuration 
file.  Probably another mistake I made while doing the initial install.
