Read the comments in the thread referenced in the quote

That can give you a pretty good idea if true: the PDA style cellular 
equipment is all using GSM, or at least is not using CDMA.
Why develop speech software for a phone that can do little more than be a 
phone?
Now, you and I might have a retort to that, but I suspect that this very 
well might be the industry mindset.
