Correct. If you use the -w option to make a wav file or pipe speech
output through a program or to a file, you don't need portaudio.
Portaudio is only used to make eSpeak send its output directly to the
sound device. There is supposed to be a way to compile eSpeak without
portaudio, but I forgot how to do it, since I always test with portaudio
first whenever there is a new release.
