Is it just me, or...

Do you have a 64 bit processor?

I came across a very similar problem on a few machines in January.

I'm really rusty at the moment with kernel options as I haven't even looked at one in almost five months but you might try adjusting the timing option in the procesor menu. Its right down the end. Sorry for being so vague. I just cant think of the name of the option.

You might want to look at the SuSE KB. although your not using that distribution there are a few things in there that might help.
