Hi Alex. Afaik Xvid is not part of Libavcodec. First, make sure your Mencoder supports Xvid by running mencoder -ovc help. In terms of all the options that can be passed to the codec for 
encoding, open the MPlayer or mencoder manpage (seems to be the same doc), and search for xvidencopts. Hth.
