mencoder

Hi All,

Have some realmedia videos I'm trying to reencode to xvid with mencoder.  
I installed MPlayer-1.0pre8 and all the windows codecs and xvid from 
cvs.
The man page says that mencoder will produce xvid-compatible video if 
you use the mpeg4 codec in the libavcodec library so I tried that 
first...but the videos don't play on a windows box with the xvid codec 
installed.  Next I tried encoding with the xvid library, but I can't 
seem to get the commandline params right...it keeps saying I need to 
specify a bitrate, but from reading the manpage/other docs I can't seem 
to figure out the right way to do that.  So has anyone gotten mencoder 
to produce proper xvid videos? if so how did you do it?
