I can't comment on jfw, since I don't use it. However, I believe the
problem you describe happens when the screen is redrawn.

What I do is to use cls frequently when running dosemu under
speakup. Also, you can avoid hearing everything when the screen
refreshes by silencing speech, and using the review commands to read
the screen.
