Installing Fedora

I downloaded the install disks and I put in the first CD. At the prompt I 
type

linux text speakup_synth=dectlk
after pressing enter my wife tells me that I get a loading linux vm and then 
a blinking cursor.

I tried recreating the cd. I tried using just the small boot cd with the 
same results. What should I try next?

I have a duel amd64 which should work I hope. Any thoughts?
