(OT) trying to install emacs

You should compile from source, as RPM is not the native package system 
for Slackware.  Alternatively, there is a Slackware package of emacspeak 
on the Extra CD, or in the extras directory of the Slackware FTP site. 
Lastly, you could use rpm2tgz to try and convert the RPM to a native 
Slackware package.
