When you say they want to make their chat more accessible, what exactly do you
mean? As far as accessibility to the masses and in fact accessibility to those
using braille or speech, nothing is more accessible than IRC. No chat that uses
the browser via javascript or applet will come close to the accessibility
provided by IRC. There are IRC clients available for every operating system on
the planet, and those who need speech or braille output will most definitely be
able to find a fully functional IRC client that works with their screen reader.
Plus, there are plenty of open source IRC servers available, so this company
won't have to worry about trying to reinvent the wheel by doing everything they
can to make a javascript based chat more accessible to people using speech.
BTW, I have yet to find a javascript based chat, even in Windows, that was even
anywhere near usable with a screen reader.

HTH,
Lorenzo
