Hi Greg,
I'm one of those newbie Linux users who also uses Windows as a computer
networking student, so maybe I can help. Please feel free to write to me
off list and I'll see if I can help you.<smile> If/when you do write to me
off list, I was wondering if you could tell me what steps you took to
install your printer, e.g. did you use the add printer wizard or were you
using the add new hardware wizard? Second, if you tell XP that you are
installing a network printer, does it show any printers available via the
add printer wizard? And last, what kind of printer are you using?
If you like, please email me at bhatch200 at comcast.net.
Best Regards,
Beth

Hi all.
First, sorry for the somewhat off-topic post. The subject line may not be
entirely accurate, but it describes the basics of what I need to do. I have
a printer connected to a gnu/linux box, which I can print to from gnu/linux
just fine, and which is also configured in samba, allowing me to print to it
from other machines. I know my samba setup is correct as well, since I was
able to print to this printer just fine from windows 98 for a couple of
years now. However, I cannot print to this printer from a windows xp system.
Specifically, whereas I was able to select the printer driver under win98
from the manufacturers and models dialog box, I no longer have access to
this box when installing the printer from winxp. Also, since I have a disk
for this driver, when I browse to the location containing the inf file and
the driver, and activate the ok button, windows says: "Windows cannot locate
a suitable printer driver. Contact your administrator for help locating and
installing a suitable driver."
If anybody might have a solution to this problem, or would like more
details, you might want to write to me privately if you consider this to be
a thread not meant for this list. Thanks in advance.
Greg
